What is a mental health retreat

The retreats that we run are not ‘rehabilitation’ or medical retreats, rather they are retreats to help everyday people who are struggling with stress to get back on their feet again.

Throughout life we all go through stages when we feel that we are unable to cope with the stress of making sure that everything is done. Unfortunately, sometimes these stages ‘stick’ and we start to feel as though we are unable to accomplish our goals over a longer period of time, sometimes months or years. Our goal, with Insite Retreats, is to ensure that you don’t get stuck and if you have gotten stuck, that you don’t stay that way.

So what can you expect?

Our retreats are goal directed and solutions focussed. We will work with you, through a formal assessment, to determine what your needs are, and what your goals and support structures are like so that we may engage you with them in the best way possible. A mental health retreat, however, is not all about working on yourself, but rather taking some time for yourself. Our retreats also focus on the important aspects of relaxation and recovery, meaning that we also will focus on active relaxation through activities such as meditation and massage.

There is a large focus in our retreats of changing the way that you view your problems, as this tends to be the major cause of stress for many people. Many philosophers across many years have come to a conclusion that it isn’t the problems that cause us issues, but rather the way in which we perceive and respond to these problems. We aim to assist you to break down these responses so that old habits don’t continue to cause issues in your life.

At our retreats days will usually begin with a group session, either focussing on individuals and how we as a group can help them or listening to a group presentation by your retreat leader. After this will be yoga classes to assist in relaxation and helping to rewrite some of the old ways of holding stress in your body. Depending on scheduling your afternoon may be focussed on one on one counselling, massage or homework, all the while being able to do these activities in the comfort of your room or our beautiful surroundings.

What methods do we use?

Our mental health retreats are strictly evidence based and work alongside current research to ensure that we provide works for you. Specifically, some of the methods that we use are Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Existential Psychotherapy – all of these modalities have been well proven through empirical research to show that they have significant impact on the experience of depression, anxiety and stress. In addition to these psycho-therapeutic modalities we also incorporate mindfulness, yoga and massage which have been shown to have an impact on stress levels.

If you have any questions about our program, how it works or costs, please do not hesitate to contact us.
